Everest Base Camp Trek
October 2025

Campus to Summit | 30 Years Later

Finding the Right Guide

Advice from seasoned trekkers was unanimous: go local. Through a trusted batchmate, we were introduced to Alpine Ramble, a Kathmandu-based agency. From the first conversation, the warm “Namaste” and calm planning gave us confidence. Choosing the right guide wasn’t just logistics — it shaped the entire experience.

Kathmandu: Where the Journey Truly Begins

Flying into Kathmandu is unforgettable. On a clear day, the Himalayas slowly emerge beneath the aircraft — vast, silent, and humbling. Our team — arriving from India and the USA — came together in Kathmandu, welcomed with smiles and seamless arrangements. For some of us, it was the first in-person meeting in years. There were hugs, laughter, exchanged goodies — like college kids again, standing on the brink of an adventure.

Preparation, Briefings & Reality Checks

The pre-trek briefing marked the transition from excitement to execution — expectations clarified, planning locked, and the trek leadership introduced. Then came the gear: sleeping bags and large duffel bags — our world for the next twelve days — with strict weight limits that forced tough choices. Minimalism was no longer optional. A short stroll through Thamel followed for last-minute fixes. The night ended in a familiar ritual: packing, repacking, weighing, and re-weighing.

On the Edge of the Himalayas

With bags packed and nerves humming, anticipation filled the room. The Lukla flight awaited — the real beginning of the Everest Base Camp trek. Some of us slept. Some stared at the ceiling. All of us knew one thing: the mountains were calling.

More Than a Trek

Not just a physical journey. Friendship tested by altitude. Silence broken by shared laughter. Moments of doubt balanced by collective resolve. The privilege of walking where legends have walked. Each day ended with reflection. Each night deepened gratitude.

The Beginning

It all began with a simple question in our college alumni WhatsApp group towards the end of 2024:

“Shall we plan a trek to Everest Base Camp?”

What started as an ambitious idea turned into commitment when a batchmate who had done the trek earlier shared his experience — and one decisive line:

“You must do this once in your lifetime.”

More than a dozen initially signed up. Over time, reality filtered the group down to six. By then, the decision was firm. We were going.

Note to the Mountains Read Day-Wise Notes

“Journeys begin long before steps are taken — in thoughts, conversations, and the courage to say yes.”

Throughout the trek, we wrote daily notes to the mountains — reflections of awe, humility, and learning. Those notes form the emotional heartbeat of this journey.
